Shirley Ann Burke

February 1, 1943 — March 25, 2023

My beautiful wife, Shirley Ann Burke, passed away today, March 25, 2023, leaving behind her two sons, Richard (Tammy) Burke and Gerald (Dee Dee) Burke; and myself, her husband, Jack Burke. She was 80 years young.

Shirley was born Feb. 1, 1943, in Vancouver, Wash., to Jorgen and Viola (Bea) Hjelmeland. Shirley lived her early life in Kelso, Wash., and graduated from Kelso High School in 1961. She attended Lower Columbia College for two years studying to become a medical secretary. Shirley was a very giving and loving person, always caring for others.

We were married on July 14, 1963, in a garden ceremony in Longview, Wash., and were married just shy of 60 precious years. Her family came first, but there was always more for others. Shirley was a wonderful mother and homemaker.

She was full of life and enjoyed quilting and her stitchery and quilting groups. They were all her closest friends. She also loved working in flower garden that encircled our home and made it a place of beauty for all to enjoy. She made every holidays special and enjoyed teaching all that she knew. She enjoyed reading and history.

She had three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Jorgen; her mother, Bea; and a brother, Richard. Shirley passed at home surrounded by family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to a charity of your choice.
