Donald Joseph Nikolas passed away on January 13, 2025 at the age of 89. Don was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, and left behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Don was born July 5, 1935 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School. After graduation Don left Aberdeen to serve in the US Army and was stationed at the Sparrovohn Radar Site in northern Alaska. There he was a heavy eqipment operator in the Engineering Corp, where he built roads and runways for the Air Force.
He met his future wife, Deanna, and the two of them moved to Portland, oregon in 1957. They were married in 1959 and raised three sons: Jeff (Michelle), Doug (Marilyn) and Russ (Cindy), who gave him 7 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his son, Doug, in 2012.
Don retired from the Teamsters after driving delivery trucks throughout the Portland area for 40 years. He took early retirement so he and Deanna could enjoy cruises. Don also enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, taking many trips back to South Dakota to hunt with friends and family.
