Derek Andrew McCorkle, 39, of Longview passed away May 25, 2023, at home.
He was born Jan. 19, 1984, in Seaside, Ore., to Shawn and Connie (Brady) McCorkle.
After earning his high school diploma, Derek enlisted in the Army, serving as a 101st Airborne 27th Infantryman during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Iraq Combat Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
Derek was a light rail foreman employed by Stacy and Whitbeck Inc., a Portland construction company specializing in transit infrastructure.
Derek was passionate about fishing, and enjoyed playing on the sand dunes, spending time with friends and family, playing games with family, and working around the house. He was caring, compassionate and always put his family first.
He is survived in Longview by his wife, Emiley McCorkle; a son, Cole McCorkle; and his father, Shawn McCorkle. His mother, Connie McCorkle, preceded him in death.
An inurnment service with military honors is planned for 3 p.m. Friday, June 16 at Longview Memorial Park’s Soaring Heights Columbarium.
